General Choi Hong Hi

General Choi is considered to be the founder of modern Tae Kwon Do. The name, “Tae Kwon Do,” is a generic name adopted by the Korean Government in the late 1940’s and 1950’s that was applied to an assortment of martial arts that had been practiced there for centuries. Under the leadership of General Choi Hong Hi, the Masters of each system met, and agreed to practice and function under the name Tae Kwon Do.
